Independent Advisory Group (IAG)

Dyfed Powys Police and Police Authority have launched a recruitment drive for specialist advisors to sit on an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) which will offer advice and guidance to the two organisations. Advisors will offer individual and independent advice, rather than the views of groups or bodies. We are looking for membership of the IAG to be broadly representative of the diverse communities we serve, in terms of age, disability, gender and gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and the Welsh language.

We are looking for people who are open-minded, willing to engage and exchange frank views and those who want to help us deliver a better, fair and equal service to all residents in Dyfed Powys.

The IAG will meet quarterly and will work to an agreed work plan, with priorities being set by both Dyfed Powys Police and Dyfed Powys Police Authority.

Can You Help Your Local Community by Becoming an Independent Custody Visitor?

Independent Custody Visitors are members of the public recruited specifically to visit police stations unannounced to check on the treatment of people detained in custody and on the conditions under which they are held. This work not only offers protection to detainees but also helps to build confidence between the police and the communities they serve.

Dyfed-Powys Police Authority administers an Independent Custody Visitors scheme and currently has vacancies in Llandrindod and Newtown (Powys).  Applications are welcome from all members of the local community aged 18 or over except those with a direct involvement in the criminal justice system e.g. a serving police officer, solicitor or probation officer to prevent a conflict of interest. We are particularly keen to receive applications from those from under-represented groups within our communities to ensure the Scheme’s volunteers are reflective of our diverse communities.
Training will be provided by the Police Authority in conjunction with the Independent Custody Visiting Association and appropriate expenses reimbursed. Custody visitors will be expected to make one to two visits per month.

If you are interested in becoming an Independent Custody Visitor and would like an application form, please contact the Police Authority office on 01267 226440 or e-mail police.authority@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk.

The Police Authority and the Jobcentre Plus Disability Symbol

The Jobcentre Plus Disability Symbol is made up of two ticks and the words 'positive about disabled people'. Employers that use this symbol indicate that they are positive about employing people with disabilities and will be keen to know about an individual’s abilities.

Dyfed-Powys Police Authority has been awarded the Symbol due to its commitment to employ, keep and develop the abilities of disabled staff.
