Stop and Search

From April 1st 2005, police officers will have to record all 'Stops' and 'Stop and Searches'. This follows recommendations in the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry.

A 'Stop' is when an officer asks someone in a public place to account for their actions, behaviour or articles in their possession.

A 'Stop and Search' is when you are searched if officers suspect you are carrying drugs, weapons, stolen property of items which could be used to commit a crime.

A leaflet explaining these changes in more details can be obtained by writing to:

The Chief Executive to Dyfed-Powys Police Authority
