Member/Officer Protocol

Summary

The relationship between Police Authority Members and officers is important to the successful working of the Authority. It should be characterised by mutual respect and trust. Members and officers must feel able to speak to one another openly and honestly. This protocol is intended to support rather than hinder this relationship, by setting out respective roles and expectations and by giving guidance on what to do on the rare occasions when things go wrong.
