The Government has proposed a number of changes for policing aimed at increasing accountability in the police. We would like to know your views on these.
On 26 July 2010, the Home Secretary published the ‘Policing in the 21st Century: Reconnecting police and the people’ consultation document.
This sets out various proposals for the future of the police service in England and Wales, including the abolition of Police Authorities and the introduction of directly elected Police and Crime Commissioners.
As an Authority, we are certainly not opposed to change, and welcome any proposals which will lead to an increase in public accountability of the police service. However, we want to ensure that any changes to the current system that are brought in are affordable, will genuinely result in improvements, and take into consideration other issues as highlighted within this paper.
