The Police Authority Listens To Your Concerns

Between the 19th November and 3rd December 2009, Dyfed-Powys Police Authority held 4 public meetings across the Force area to listen to the public’s views on their local policing service. The meetings, held in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Powys and Pembrokeshire were chaired by local Police Authority Members, and consisted of a panel of Police Authority representatives and Senior Police Officers from each division.

Audiences heard presentations from the BCU Commanders for each division on how the local police service was meeting the standards of service set within the Policing Pledge. There were also brief presentations on projected police budgets for the forthcoming year and beyond, as well as a brief introduction to how the Police Authority sets policing priorities for the Police Force. After listening to the presentations, audiences were given the opportunity to ask questions of the panel.

A number of questions were asked by the audiences at each of the events in relation to operational policing matters, and it was evident from the discussions held that the priorities highlighted were very much tackling anti-social behaviour and increasing the visibility of policing on the streets.

Chair of the Police Authority, Mrs Delyth Humfryes, said:

“The Police Authority is delighted that so many members of the public braved the weather to come to the meetings to share their views on policing priorities and discuss issues of concern.

“The Police Authority has listened to the key areas of concern for policing in across Dyfed-Powys and will be using the information gathered in the meetings to help set the formal policing priorities for next year within the Policing Plan.

“The public’s Council Tax helps pay for policing on the ground and as such we want to ensure that the service delivered reflects local concerns.”
